Easy Lasagna Recipe

The Best Classic Easy Lasagna

Ingredients
  

  • 1 box no cook lasagna noodles 12 or 15 sheets

Meat Sauce

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1lb/450g ground meat beef, chicken or turkey
  • 1/2 cup yellow onion finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp garlic minced
  • 1 tsp salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp red chili flakes
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 40oz/1.1L crushed tomatoes save 1/2 cup for layering
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 cup parsley chopped
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves chopped

Cheese Mixture

  • 16oz/450g ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup parsley finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano

Layering

  • 1 box no cook lasagna noodles 12 or 15 noodles
  • 16oz/450g mozzarella cheeese grated
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup crushed tomatoes saved from 40 oz used in sauce

Instructions
 

  • Heat up a pot and add olive oil. Add meat and cook until golden. Add onion, garlic and cook until both are soft. Add salt, chili flakes, oregano and mix for 30 seconds. Add 40 oz minus 1/2 cup of crushed tomatoes, sugar, parsley and basil. Stir thoroughly and cover pot. Simmer for 20 minutes. Adjust seasoning if you wish.
  • To a bowl, add all ingredients under "cheese mixture". Mix well and set aside.
  • Heat oven to 375 F or 190 C.
  • For 3 layers - Pour 1/2 cup crushed tomatoes and 1/2 cup of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 dish. Spread evenly. Place a layer of noodles on top. Spread 1 cup of meat sauce to cover noodles. Spread half of ricotta mixture on top. Scatter 1/3 of mozzarella cheese on top. Scatter 1/4 cup parmesan cheese on top.
  • Place another layer of noodles, 1/2 of remaining meat sauce, remaining ricotta, 1/3 of mozzarella and 1/4 cup parmesan.
  • Place another layer of noodles, remaining meat sauce, remaining mozzarella and remaining parmesan on top. Cover pan with foil. Bake in heated oven for 35 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 15 minutes. If you want more color on top, set pan few inches away from broiler for 2 minutes. Let rest for 15 minutes before cutting into it.
  • Layers - vertically placed noodles - 4 layers - 12 noodles - can overlap to use up all 15 in box.
    Horizontally place noodles - 3 layers -15 noodles - use up the box!
    Break up noodles to cover gaps.
