Instructions
- This recipe will make 8 to 10 slices of thick Challah bread, few more slices if using sliced white or wheat packaged bread.
- Crack eggs into a square dish. Add sugar, salt and vanilla extract. Whisk thoroughly until well blended. Add milk and whisk well.
- Heat up a griddle. Soak two slices of challah in wet mixture. Soak 30 seconds, turn over and soak 30 seconds. Spread a little butter on the griddle. Pick up bread from mixture, letting excess drip off. Place on hot griddle. Cook 2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Adjust heat as necessary. Medium low is best for cast iron pans.
- Whisk wet mixture before soaking next two slices and repeat.
- If using white or wheat packaged, sliced bread - soak in wet mixture only for 10 or 15 seconds so that the pieces don't fall apart. Cooking time will be less than when using Challah.
- Serve hot with butter and maple syrup or powdered sugar. Fresh fruit is perfect with this fluffy french toast.
