- 3/4cup/5oz/142g vegetable shortening
- 1/3cup/2.5oz/70g White Sugar
- 1 cup/5oz/142g dark brown sugar
- 2 large eggs 4oz/113g
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 2cups/10oz/283g All Purpose Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1 tsp Coarse Salt
- 10oz/285g chocolate chips semi-sweet

- Mix flour, baking soda and salt. By hand or in a mixer, cream vegetable shortening, white sugar and brown sugar. Then add eggs one at a time. Add vanilla and mix. Scrape down bowl if necessary. Add flour/baking soda/salt little at a time until incorporated. Add chocolate chips and mix. Place dough in a bowl covered and refrigerate for 2 hours.
- Heat oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit or 190 degrees Celsius. Take one tablespoon of dough and roll into a ball. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Repeat with remaining dough. One half sheet tray will fit 12 balls. Bake in heated oven for 9 to 12 minutes until just light golden around edges. Do not overcook. Check the cookies at 9 minutes. Cooking time depends on your oven. Remove tray from oven and let cookies sit on tray for 2 minutes, then remove cookies from tray and place on wire rack to cool. This recipe makes 36 cookies.
